Our key aim is to spark an interest among young people in informatics and programming

An international educational IT event titled “The Hour of Programming” is to take place in Armenia on December 9 and 10, the press office of the Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia reports.

According to the press release, the Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia, in cooperation with the Children of Armenia Fund (COAF), will hold this event for the first time in seven communities of Armenia’s Lori and Tavush provinces on December 9.

Artashes Vardanyan, director of the Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia, said that information technology development in provinces will contribute to economic activity.

On December 10, the event will be held in AYB School for school students from Yerevan and nearby communities. It will be held for the fourth time.

“Our key aim is to spark an interest among young people in Informatics and programming,” said Liana Korkotyan, Microsoft Armenia Country Manager. “We are trying to expand their idea of IT industry and impel them to choosing their professional road to this area. To attract young people’s attention to information technology it is necessary to present them complicated concepts in a simple way.”

In her words, the logic of programming will be presented in games.

Microsoft has developed Minecraft based game called Hero's Journey for the Hour of Programming. The authors of the game present essential programming and its principles through the game’s functions.

Every year the event gathers more than 280 million participants from 180 countries.

The first event was held in Armenia in 2016. More than 350 young people have taken part in it since then.

Interest in the event is growing. This time some 500 school students are expected to attend it.
