Repats for Artsakh
Shoushan Keshishian and Hub Artsakh: Resilience and Rebirth
In the summer of 2021, a small but vibrant community space emerged in the heart of Stepanakert, the capital of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). This space, known as Hub Artsakh, quickly became a haven for the youth of Artsakh, fostering creativity, innovation, and community spirit. Under the visionary leadership of Shoushan Keshishian, a repatriate from Lebanon, Hub Artsakh embarked on a remarkable journey, igniting hope and change in the region.
Hub Artsakh was more than just a physical space; it was a testament to the resilience and determination of its team, volunteers, and the entire community. Shoushan, who had moved to Armenia and then Artsakh from Beirut, understood the importance of creating a nurturing environment for young minds. "Artsakh Hub was my home. Every corner was made with love and care. Our space was always full of joy, and our team worked every day to serve the community and serve Artsakh, even throughout the blockade,” she explains. Azerbaijan's blockade of Artsakh inflicted a nearly year-long humanitarian crisis, adding to the region's already challenging circumstances.
The Hub Artsakh team worked tirelessly to bring numerous initiatives to life, including the Hovnanian Youth Fellowship program, free English classes for the youth, The Artsakh Civil Society Expo, the Sunrise Stepanakert Art Festival, and many other engaging projects. It served as a meeting point of creativity, a place where ideas flourished and dreams turned into reality.
But then, in September 2023, tragedy struck. Azerbaijan launched a devastating assault on Artsakh, forcing its peaceful Armenian population to flee. The Hub Artsakh team found themselves in the midst of a warzone, seeking refuge in their basement as explosions and gunfire echoed outside.
Despite the harrowing circumstances, Hub Artsakh's basement and emergency kits became a lifeline for the community, helping them survive those terrifying days. When the dust settled, only one folder remained – containing Hub Artsakh's registration certificate, charter, and an official stamp. It was a symbol of their indomitable spirit.
Shoushan and the Hub Artsakh team, determined not to let adversity define them, decided to start anew in Yerevan, Armenia. Their commitment to empowering the people of Artsakh remained unwavering. "Our mission is to continue empowering the people of Artsakh,” Shoushan boldly says.
The journey to rebuild Hub Artsakh in Armenia has begun, and they need your support. The organization, which had played a pivotal role in nurturing innovation and social impact projects, is now seeking donations and volunteers to rise from the ashes and continue its mission in Armenia.
Hub Artsakh's story isn't just about bricks and mortar; it's about resilience, hope, and the unwavering commitment to a brighter future. Join hands with Hub Artsakh as they rise from the ashes, rebuild, and continue to empower the people of Artsakh on their path to a brighter future. Together, we can help them write the next chapter of their inspiring story.
