Teny Avakian
Chief Executive Officer of Girls of Armenia Leadership Sports
Teny Avakian was born in Tehran, Iran but shortly after moved to Boston, USA with her family. She grew up in the greater Boston area attending both Armenian private and public schools. In 1996, her family decided to make a big move to Armenia. The move was also her first time in the country. Teny completed her High School education at the Secondary School #8 of A.S. Pushkin in Yerevan. She later went on to study International Relations at the Yerevan State University. With her BA degree in hand, Teny continued her education first at the American Graduate School of International Relations in Paris, then at the Lebanese American University in Beirut.
Teny was away for a total of 5 years and repatriated to Armenia for a second time in early 2010. She started her career in a corporate environment doing product development and marketing for telecommunications and IT companies. However, feeling unfulfilled she made the transition to non-profit work with Teach For Armenia. Currently, she is the CEO of a sports for social impact organization Girls of Armenia Leadership Sports (GOALS) and resides full-time in Armenia. She is married and has 2 children.
