How to Find and Use Taxis?
If you think there are a lot of taxis in New York City, wait until you see Yerevan. It seems like everybody who has a car has turned it into a taxi and you will almost never have to worry about finding one unless, much like New York, there has been a snowstorm or it’s raining.
How much does it cost?
It costs around 1,000 AMD to go anywhere in the center of Yerevan. That’s for the first 4 kilometers (about 2.5 miles). Everything after that is 100 AMD per kilometer. You can also rent a cab for several hours or a whole day. If you are riding in or order a cab from a reputable company, there will be set rates for part-day/whole day hires.
How can I get a cab?
Because they’re everywhere, it’s easy to find a cab. Until recently, that didn’t mean it was easy to find a good cab. Fortunately, there are some great traditional and nontraditional taxi cab services which help you avoid using shady providers. When possible, always go with a reputable taxi provider.
We recommend using taxi mobile apps: GG, UTaxi and Yandex Go. If you’re at a restaurant, you can ask them to call a cab for you. This is particularly helpful if you’re not in the center and need a way to get home.
A word of caution: it’s a good policy to avoid gypsy cabs, shady cars with green lights in their windshields that look like taxis but which are operating illegally. They don’t have meters and with good reason: they are usually out looking for people they can scam out of the usual fare.
